Five Times Something Strange Fell (Or Was Pushed) Out of the Sky

On 4 February, off their east coast, US fighter jets shot down a Chinese surveillance balloon.

Over the following fortnight, three more flying objects were allegedly shot down over North America. They were never identified and no report of recovered wreckage was ever made. This was the first time in NORAD’s 65-year history that the Americans shot something down in their own airspace.

Or was it?

Crash at Aurora, Texas: 17 April 1897

Cameras weren’t invented until we reverse engineered the microchip from that Roswell saucer so this photo is definitely fake. [Source: “Illustration by FW.” First example found: https://affotd.com/tag/aurora-texas-ufo-incident/ ]

The story goes that a UFO collided with a farm windmill. The pilot, who didn’t survive, appeared to be not of this world, and was buried in the town cemetery. The craft was made of an unknown material – eggshells, presumably, as either ET was high in entirely the wrong way for stable flight or Texas used to make windmills out of concrete.

Last Rites at Cape Girardeau: 12 April 1941

The archetype “Grey” alien is arguably as much a part of Western culture now as Santa and the Tooth Fairy – and equally as fond of entering children’s bedrooms as they sleep. Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Reverend William Huffman is summoned by police to perform last rites at a crash site. This was no aeroplane though – but a silver saucer! The bodies of two strange beings lay with the wreckage, with a third clinging still to life. If last rites were performed successfully, that surely must have been an interesting night in Christian heaven.

Trinity Nuclear Test Crash: 16 July 1945

Maybe the black dots on the film are ionising radiation; maybe they’re drunk joyriding ET teens in their mom’s saucer. Who can really say for sure? The legendary Roswell crash – close to the airfield from where the nuclear bombers that hit Japan flew – wasn’t the first time a visitor showed an interest in New Mexican nuclear capabilities.

It is said that the first nuclear test by humans – codenamed “Trinity” – caused an avocado shaped object to crash in the nearby desert. An explosive yield equivalent to around 20 kilotons of TNT does sound more likely to do that than a windmill. The craft reportedly contained three occupants.

Alien or Adolf? Kecksburg, Pennsylvania: 9 December 1965

Speaking of space avocados, quite a few UFOs share a similar shape. Here we have a space acorn – or is it a bell…? [Source: https://matpra.org/event/kecksburg-ufo-festival/]

One minute there’s a fire in the sky, the next, the military is making off with the object then denying all knowledge.

Some believe that the description of these craft with similar shapes suggests a common culprit: Die Glocke – The Bell – a Nazi anti-gravity time-travelling superweapon.

As outlandish as that may sound, there is evidence to suggest a prototype Bell could have existed in some form. Less convincing is the theory that Josef Mengele altered children to look like aliens so that Stalin could drop a fake flying saucer near Roswell.

Pentyrch Pyramid Shot Down: 26 February 2016

FOIA requests have deemed this spectacle not in the public interest. [Source: Artist rendering of the Pentyrch UFO case: http://www.thepentyrchincident.com/pentyrchufocase/]

It was the early hours of the morning in South Wales when witnesses report a massive bright pyramid shooting erratic orbs and lighting out over the forest. Chasing them, a large number of army helicopters with air support. An object was purportedly shot down, with an impact that shook the walls of a nearby hospital. Witnesses claim to have been detained by armed soldiers. Later, radiation and broken trees were found at the sight.

Declassified MoD files describe a similar incident in North Wales, 1974. Some even claim that, this time, alien bodies were recovered.

We may want to believe – but should we?
